D.C.’s Newest Gastropub Features Prohibition Era Cocktails, Craft Beers from Local Breweries and Comfort Food with a Modern Twist
Washington, DC (March 10, 2020) – The Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Downtown (HGI DC) today announced the opening of its new restaurant and bar, The Third Rail. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital at 815 14th Street, NWacross from the McPherson Square Metro, The Third Rail is part of the hotel’s recent $3.8 million renovation, which included the lobby, lounge, meeting space, pool and fitness center.
Unlike most hotel restaurants, The Third Rail features an open, modern gastropub design with seating for small and large groups; a dropped, wood-coffered ceiling; contemporary lighting and comfortable furnishings; a fireplace; several flat-screen televisions; and mobile device charging stations throughout.
“We designed the space to be inviting to hotel guests as well as people looking for a comfortable, exciting and affordable venue located minutes from hundreds of businesses and government agencies, the White House and Capitol Hill, and popular destinations like the D.C. Convention Center, Capital One Arena, Smithsonian and National Theater,” explained HGI DC General Manager Lee Seiler.
Third Rail patrons can choose from a unique drink menu of draft and craft beers from nearby breweries, including Mustang Sally, Port City and Angry Orchard; international wines, including Kundee Chardonnay, Ruffino Lumina Pinot Grigio and Meoimi Pinot Noir; and signature cocktails revived from the Prohibition era with a modern twist.
“Three of our ‘must try’ cocktails are The TTR Southside, made with Catoctin Creek Watershed Gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and mint; The Mary Pickford, made with Thrashers Rum, fresh pineapple juice, Caffo Maraschino Liqueur and Small Hands Foods Grenadine; and The TTR Sidecar, made with Maison Rouge VSOP, Vedrenne Curaçao, Triple Sec and lemon juice,” Seiler said.
Third Rail signature appetizers, entrees and desserts include Skillet Bacon and Cheddar Cornbread, Brussel Sprouts with Crispy Bacon and Pomegranate Molasses, Maryland Blue Crab Mac and Cheese, Pan Roasted Salmon with Butternut Squash, Bananas Foster Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding and Cast-Iron Apple Crisp.
The Third Rail also will offer tastings and specialty cocktails and menu items in conjunction with national and DC sporting events, festivals and other celebrations, including St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), the National Cherry Blossom Festival (March 20-April 12), National Beer Day (April 7), and the Kentucky Derby (May 2); live broadcasts of Caps Radio 24/7hosted by sportscasters John Walton and Ben Raby; and other special events with current and former Washington Capitals players.
“Whether you’re in town on business or with your family, coming into the District to go to the theater or sporting event, or simply looking for a place to unwind with friends after a long day at work or sightseeing, The Third Rail is the perfect destination for happy hour and dinner,” Seiler said.
